Although we have national, regional and local championship honours In many of these sports we do not see them as for the most talented only. In all of these sports we encourage anyone to play who wants to, and we have a strong commitment to 'inter-form' activities which involve most students in the school
In recent years the school has excelled in basketball, winning the England Schools' Championship outright. The school is well established as one of the top basketball schools in the country, In cricket we have many honours including recent trophies in the Manchester and Lancashire championships. The school has an excellent record in table tennis, winning the Manchester, Greater Manchester and North-West England titles in recent years. We provide clubs and societies for many other interests There is an active homework club,
The school has a strong involvement in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme and has had many individual and group successes in the scheme in recent years. We try to encourage boys to take part in this Award which is very highly regarded by employers, parents and educational establishments Students have the opportunity to participate in different musical groups including the Steel Band, the Swing Band, and the African Drumming Group.
There is a thriving drama club, which provides for students who want to enjoy drama after school, but which also puts on performances for parents and the public.
Many of our successes have been in joint productions in which the bands, choir and drama groups have participated The school has gained a great reputation for the quality of its work and in recent years performances by Burnage students have been given in Manchester Town Hall, The Free Trade Hall, The Royal Northern School of Music, in junior schools and in the local community
